About Bernadene Schlien, Ph.D.Bernadene Schlien, PhD

I am a person who has thoroughly enjoyed exploring many healing modalities over my twenty years of practicing psychotherapy.  After receiving my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Maryland, I did post graduate work in Gestalt Therapy and Mindfulness Meditation.  Since that time I have incorporated a variety of complementary approaches to health and growth (including energy work, breathwork, EMDR, hypnosis, guided imagery) into my clinical practice.

In 2001 I began using neurofeedback both as an adjunct to therapy and as a stand-alone training.  The effects of brain training that I have experienced first hand and that I have witnessed in others have in many cases been remarkable and have strongly influenced how I view the healing process.  No matter what the “diagnosis,” a person may come with, I have found that brain self-regulation plays a crucial and central role in providing a foundation for growth and stability from which to explore life’s deeper issues.

I offer neurofeedback and psychotherapy, separately, or together.  In many cases neurofeedback is sufficient to regain, or acquire skills, to rebalance the brain for more effective day-to-day functioning, and for emotional self-regulation.  But for individuals who wish to work on a deeper level, the combination of the two modalities offers a satisfying and often transformative holistic approach.
